ONDA

The Schumann resonance (7.83 Hz), explained

The Schumann resonance is a set of natural electromagnetic resonances in the cavity between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere, excited mainly by lightning. The lowest and strongest is about 7.83 Hz. ONDA offers 7.83 per second as a gentle rhythm inside its music; it is a sound, not an electromagnetic field, and no health effect is claimed.

What is the Schumann resonance?

Lightning strikes around the world constantly, and the space between the ground and the ionosphere acts like a resonant chamber for the very low-frequency radio waves they produce. The physicist Winfried Otto Schumann predicted these resonances in 1952, and they were measured in the early 1960s. The fundamental is around 7.83 Hz, with further peaks at roughly 14, 20, 26 and 33 Hz.

Can you hear 7.83 Hz?

Not directly. Human hearing starts at around 20 Hz, and the Schumann resonance is an electromagnetic phenomenon, not a sound. What you can hear is a rhythm at that rate: a sound that pulses or trembles 7.83 times per second.

What does science say about its effects?

There are many claims online that listening to 7.83 Hz improves sleep, focus or wellbeing. These are not established by good evidence, and ONDA makes no such claim. We offer it because many listeners ask for it and find the rhythm pleasant.

How ONDA plays it

Choose Steady in any space and pick 7.83. ONDA moves the music with a fine, gentle tremble at that rate, mixed low under the harmony. Programs add subtle sound modulation based on a frequency sequence from our own library, first made for frequency-wellness devices. They do not generate PEMF and have not been shown to reproduce the effects proposed for those devices. You can switch to the music alone at any time.

Questions

What frequency is the Schumann resonance?

The fundamental is about 7.83 Hz, with higher modes near 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 and 33.8 Hz. The values shift slightly with conditions in the ionosphere.

Is 7.83 Hz music proven to help?

No. Claims that 7.83 Hz improves health, sleep or focus are not supported by good evidence. ONDA offers it as a rhythm in the music only.

Do I need headphones?

No. ONDA plays the 7.83 rhythm as a tremble in the music, which works on any speaker.

Is ONDA free?

Yes, during the preview. You can listen for 10 minutes straight away with no sign-up, then create a free account with just an email address to keep listening.
